I just wanted to take a minute to shout out my awesome boss. I’m a scientist pursuing my PhD (I could go on for hours how academia is extremely exploitive of its students). My wife has recently been having health problems and when I let my boss know that it may be difficult to hit some deadlines because of this he immediately told me to take all the time I need, that my family’s wellbeing was more important and that anything he could do to support me he would. This is how it should be. Too often I’ve seen people lose their jobs or have to fight with their bosses to get the time they need.
