So I thought I'd give a shoutout to good faith owners of businesses and acknowledge some complexities. I work at a small company and recently had to be hospitalized for a work related reason and while there the owners came to check on me. They pay me generously in my opinion ($40hr non union construction in AZ)because I'm knowledgeable and dependable but that said I'm aware that some (not all) my coworkers are not compensated as well as I am and in their positions are likely paid slightly less then other companies. The management of workload and pressure to produce tend to make it harder and more demanding compared to other similar companies as well. We all do our small part but together produce one item so determining who produced how much is hard. All this is to say there are nuisances to determining what makes a good boss and that everybody has varied experiences with those bosses. There are complexities in determining who gets compensated how and external pressures that are placed upon employers that are constantly changing and acknowledging this might help when trying to get owners to have good faith discussions about compensation and workload. The good faith part is key in a small business but clearly diminishes the larger they get and is absent in the largest so they should not be afforded the respect and should be forcefully compelled to compensate their employees fairly.
