Before Oct.23,2021 I was applying to jobs too. Although less frequently, perhaps 2 or 3 a week. I don't apply for unreasonable positions or listings where I would not be able to see myself not being able to help them with what their advertised need is.
Fuck Anyone who says there is a labor shortage. We all here know the true story, but the effects of the Fox News parrots, is music to the Chamber of Commerce's ears. Who ensure our safety net systems stay corrupt, shitty, useless and that companies do not face any need to pay more for labor.
I now cost the citizens of my state more money than if I had recieved the maximum UI I could have ever recieved. It would have stabilized me, allowed me to keep my car, health, and kept me employable. I've walked everywhere in my town with no public transport for over 2 years now. Walking groceries home for miles, because my state doesn't allow SNAP to be used for online groceries. Even with COVID, I had to go to Walmart for groceries, walking miles there and back. SNAP was a whopping $19/month for the first few months. Then it went up to $90/month; which was still not enough for myself and my son who I barely even know now that I haven't had a car to visit him and be there for him.
The destruction of social safety nets destroyed the convenient employ-ability of much of our population. The rhetoric pushed by the Chamber of Commerce, is why we stand where we do.
I was denied UI after being terminated in COVID. Employer farced that I was 'absent' after verbally telling me I wouldn't be going on a work trip next week; with a standing order that if one isn't on a work project, they are to remain home and be on call. Despite my explanation of this to the Appeals Judge, of course they sided with employer. The board of review sided with the administrative judge; which was all a nightmare process and I was totally given false info, nonsense, wrong info the whole way by the Workforce Commission. No legislator or Senator cared, nor the FBI, nor the white house, nor the city hall, nor the mayor, nor the parish president. Not a single one gave a shit to even so much as hear my plea that I am without food, and afraid, after already losing everything including my car.
I am here to call on everyone to begin the motions of further exposing the Chamber of Commerce in your town. It is the largest lobbying agency against unions, social welfare, climate change, corporate responsibility, social equity, racial equity, and spent over $66Million in 2021 reported* funding of senators to vote against EVERYTHING we fight for here on /antiwork. (dark funding is likely even larger than reported funding, in regards to the CoC)*
