So i just did some calculations…

I was reading comments on a post on another sub about the amount you should tip your servers. i was simply appalled by the amount of people that said 10% or less because it’s “always been that way” since the 80s/90s. In 1989, you would have to work 22hrs/week making minimum wage to afford the average rent. In 2023 you would have to work around 61hrs/week to afford the average rent. This is excluding taxes. I didn’t realize inflation was this bad until now.
