So, first some background.
I work in a grocery store as a sandwich maker, while I'm doing my Masters.
In my country we have our ww2 liberation day may 5th, which where I currently live is celebrated excessively.
The exam is for a qualification to work the liquor-cigarette section of the store (seperate register)
So when I planned the exam, I had to work around the three week notice from my job and my schedule for uni. This left only may 5th, in the morning. So i scheduled it, 5 weeks before the date I requested time-off.
3 weeks before it got denied, because they needed me as a lot of people were going to be gone due to the festivities…
So I send back an email, basically saying its not okay, and that I would not be there, even if i found no replacement. (Its a holiday… good luck finding someone) The entire response to that was 'do not email about this, just discuss this at work'. Which wasn't possible as the schedule manager is rarely on location, and even less during evenings (my main availability).
Through talking with floormanagers I learned that apparently she just does what she wants if she doesn't like you.
2 weeks before I sent another email, politely demanding to know where in our contract, guidelines, union guidelines (CAO) she found that this was okay.
Also again I told
We're now a week out. I already informed both floormanagers that day, and the person running the bakery that I will not be there.
On the day of, I will be muting my phone and going to the exam. (Which I haven't studied enough for yet due to this bullshit) and we will see what happens after.
I'm scheduled for the next evening, so that will be fun.
The only thing I'm conflicted about is whether or not to email again. I'm generally not someone who goes against expectations, so this is all new and terrifying to me.
