My rent has recently been raised which is common in our current economy. I receive no equity for my rent payments and housing prices are soaring. Furthermore inflation is eating up our monthly salaries. My friend and I have been brainstorming to create a new system where tenants collectively own the housing that they live in through a foundation.
Investors purchase inflation protected a local currency from a community foundation. The foundation uses this capital to purchase real estate which is then rented to tenants. With every rental payment, the tenant receives a percentage back in newly generated local currency. The local currency are backed by the real estate investments of the foundation and can be used to purchase goods and services from local retailers and other businesses within the ecosystem. As the value of the real estate assets increase with the increase in economic activity, the value and purchasing power of the local currency will grow allowing tenants to have a share in the wealth growing benefits of real estate.
We created a subreddit called tenanttoken to hear the opinions of others and discuss ideas to create such a project.
