Summary: At 19:00, the topic if $15/hr was enough for minimum wage. A rich guy in this video (who grew up poor) argued that some jobs aren't worth $15/hr. He gives the example of a company paying someone to do market research by watching commercials all day and taking notes on them, that job isn't worth $15/hr to him.
The problem here is his perception that a job like this is rather simple. I mean how taxing could it be to watch commercials for hours?
My first job out of university was as a QA game tester. Most of my friends said to me, “oh you just play video games all day?” No, I don't. While I do “play” the game, I'm not doing it for enjoyment or playing the game the way a consumer would. My job is to break the game. This means interacting with the software to see if anything goes wrong. We're talking network disconnects, controllers losing signal, etc. I have to make sure all facets of the game are usable and I mean EVERY part.
In the same way, a person “watching” commercials for that research is paying 100% attention to each commercial whereas the average consumer ignores most commercials. You can't be on your phone scrolling Reddit. You're actively taking notes and paying attention to the content of what is being advertised. Just because I'm sitting there, watching a commercial, doesn't mean that's ALL I'm doing.
