My coworkers and I have been talking about pay recently as some people were noticing unfair treatment and our pay was all over the place. No one was happy and some were even saying that it had to do with race.
A few days later, management fired one of our beloved coworkers for “attitude problems” and other various lame excuses. After my boss did this, she went on vacation. We all were very upset and really wanted to talk to management about all of our issues so we waited until she was back from vacation and we could call a meeting. Within that week, another one of our coworkers quit because of all the BS.
The day she got back from vacation, management called the few people working that day into a 3 on one meeting asking to air anything out. I did, told them what they were doing isn’t right and also mentioned that I had come to them about these things three times before. I let them know we all wanted to meet with this to discuss what happened and what we would like to see changed going forward. I told them because I cared about my coworkers and I also cared about my job (I really love it).
The next day at 11pm, she announced that she was closing the store in order to “do the work” and conduct an investigation. She told us all to go on unemployment.
Since then it has been MESSY. We are not union but we’ve gotten union backing to help us out but my god the handling of this is so bad. I’m just venting as I cannot believe that a small business would go about things in this manner, but I guess I was also naïve.
We filed an ULP and are striking for the most reasonable demands and I just find it so funny that they are digging their heels fun for seemingly personal reasons. Why do people like this own a business? Gat damn
