Place: Small cannabis store
Scenario: Manager lets several things fall to the wayside over the period of months, leading to animosity amongst staff. Nothing unusual in a small close knit store. There were a lot of tight friendships and the in-fighting was awkward. The staff begged for a meeting so we could all air our grievances, regroup, and come back stronger than ever. We were promised the meeting.
And then: The Manager's manager got fired. Two weeks later, my manager got fired. The staff still beg for the meeting as it's feeling more and more crucial we hash things out. Today, HR showed up and fired 5 of the 7 staff members. “Culture reset” is what they called it. Staff member number 6 quit when she found out this all happened, and staff member 7 is there, at work with a bunch of strangers she hasn't worked with before, vomiting from the stress and despair of losing her coworkers and support system.
We put our hearts and souls into the store, we worked our asses off and broke our backs making it awesome. It doesn't matter what you put in, it doesn't matter how much you love or care for your job, it doesn't fucking matter if you want to put the work in. It doesn't matter, you get shit on regardless.
