So I recently took a new job as a delivery guy for food supplier in my hometown. They've been in business over 100 year and supply to pretty much every major restaurant and school in the county.
I started my first day under the impression I was working a 7-330 shift with an unpaid lunch with the exception of some deliveries running late to traffic and distance. Come to find out this is very.mom and pop with the expectation of staying late (until 6pm) to help pull orders in the warehouse. Normally I wouldn't mind the overtime but the only reason for staying late is the lack of urgency to pull orders. My first 5 days after finishing my runs has been sitting around the warehouse for several hours waiting on the pick lists. And with the hours I found out Fridays are half days, no advanced notice, so I'm already short on my necessary 40hrs to maintain my living standard.
I've already contacted a previous employer to see if there is an opening I can get back into, so I at least won't go jobless. Not to mention working with bigoted gen x'ers who have made several tasteless comments while out on deliveries about protected class citizens. Thought you all might get a laugh out of my attempt to try a new position out.
