Currently working out of a doggy day care and boarding facility. There is one manager and about seven staff members, we are all between the ages 18-23. From what I understand, everyone besides one single employee (she is signed to a contract, unable to discuss wages) are being paid 11/hr. When I say there are only about 7 staff members, I’m serious. I’m on my second week with this place and it’s being run by around two people per building. That looks like me and one other employee watching 20 dogs, stopping fights, cleaning, checking dogs in and out, working with customers, taking calls, among other responsibilities. That means we are 100% running this entire facility, and the manager does not really assist when she is around. And that leaves the other two or three employees to run boarding. The responsibilities in that building are similar but more intense, they are taking payments, doing grooming and bathing, feeding, giving medicine and doing dishes and laundry. How the absolute fuck are these young people being paid 11/hr to run an entire fucking facility with two buildings? I need this job, but I can’t stay if she won’t offer me more money. Not to mention how terrible I feel for the younger workers, two of them didn’t even know what rate they were being paid at because the manager didn’t tell them and they’re comfortable with the checks that come in bc they don’t pay bills. Don’t even get me started on how mentally taxing and physically taxing it is to be constantly stoping dog fights and watching your back. How am I supposed to find time to use the bathroom if I’m alone with 12 unruly dogs? What the fuck should I do?
