This is kind of a rant, but I just got off of work and am pretty ticked off about this situation. I work as a server in a really nice restaurant, and am currently re-training after I took some time off to go back to college. Tonight, the other server I was being trained by was really stressed out, having been given 3 large parties at once. Even though I'm technically not supposed to serve on my own yet, I took on one of the tables by myself to help out as they were pretty much getting ignored by my trainer. They really liked me and ended up tipping me $156, which my “trainer” decided to keep for herself because you aren't required to tip out trainees. Can I do anything about this? I was the one who did all the work and provided the service, is she legally allowed to just pocket my tip like that?
