Story time: found an offer letter for my exact job from 2009

I used to work at an animal shelter. Anyone who works in the animal care field knows how upper management often takes advantage of people who are passionate about animals and will work for little to no pay to help rescuing animals. I was hired at this particular shelter a couple of years ago and my starting salary was $14.50 (minimum wage I lived). I was required to drive my own vehicle to attend locations for my work, and was not reimbursed for mileage. When cleaning out my office one day, I found an offer letter for my exact job from 2009. Not only did they offer mileage reimbursement, but they paid $15 an hour back then. Needless to say, I was LIVID. So I should have been earning close to $20 an hour based on that salary from 2009 if they kept up with inflation. Oh, and did I mention they required at least 3 years work experience and a university degree (of which I had a BSc and an MSc)??

The system is broken, and screw the people who take advantage of passionate hard working people. They use the excuse that they are a charity to justify paying their employees like shit, even though the two top bosses make around $100,000 each.
