Sudden Shift in Management and Massive Layoffs

I wrote here on an old account about my leeriness about staying with my current job and now that's been compounded 10 fold. I had emails come to my phone along with messages on the instant message system and the instant messages is what made me look at my emails. CEO has resigned and a new CEO has been appointed. As such, an email immediately following up is the statement that over 1000 employees will be laid off to help correct financial issues with the company. I wrote here on an old account about my leeriness about staying with my current job and now that's been compounded 10 fold. Luckily I am not affected (yet) but I have no faith this is a job I can stay at long term. I actually got this job because others had been laid off and they did a mass rehiring. Today is my day off and I can't imagine what it'd be like had I opened these emails tomorrow and seen I was laid off. I'm at the tail end of the millennial generation and have been plagued with jobs paying poorly, being chronically understaffed, terrible work conditions, etc. I want to go to nursing school but my brain is telling me I may need to just find solid work first. I'm not going to find a job paying as well as I'm being paid now due to my skills.

The workforce is a joke now. My sister is GenZ and has abandoned a job because she saw the writing on the wall and sure enough, less than a year later the company is defunct. This sows so much anxiety and depression because we're trying to be good people, work hard, build skills but the rope keeps getting cut before we can climb.
