Surgery is no biggie. Get back to work!

My wife is a nurse at a medical facility. She text me halfway through her shift and said she needed to go to the hospital. She had another nurse friend check her out and she believed her gallbladder was at risk of bursting. I told her if it’s that bad then go now. She said they are short handed and had to finish her shift. So, she comes home after work and is in horrible pain. She can’t walk, nauseous, crying, and trying to take a shower before ER. She said she HAD to take a shower first. I didn’t question it. We are in the ER, she is on morphine, and waiting on an ultrasound. Her boss text her asking if she will be in later for her shift. She is by herself in charge of 30+patients. They can’t find a replacement. “Um, they may have to do surgery.…

“Um, they may have to do surgery. “ she gave them the details and medical speak.

Hours later the ultrasound tech and starts the ultrasound. He asked a few questions and my wife said “based on your questions I guess you see gallstones and they may need to do surgery “. He plays it off like “I’m just a tech” and my wife was like “I’m just a charge nurse”. They had their banter and said the doctors are busy it may be an hour for your results. The Dr was actually right at the door waiting. “Well, you need surgery as soon as you can get it scheduled. It’s not infected, so you can go home and have your general practitioner referral you to a surgeon. You’re gonna need some recovery time and make some life changes to your diet. Get with your dr tomorrow, we want that gallbladder out this week”.

She text her boss the Dr note to miss work. Almost immediately she gets a phone call. The boss told her to ask her Dr if she qualifies for laparoscopic surgery so she can be back at work before next week! That they would have a nurse assistant scheduled to push her med cart. Z-omg!

We have been waiting for 2 months for this week, our getaway vacation without the kids. Instead paid $1,000 for an ER visit and expect a $7k bill for this ASAP surgery. And be told to hurry up so you can cover your shifts after vacation. Now we are staying home and my poor wife has to go under the knife, with whatever procedure HER Dr recommends, not her boss.

All I hear is Pam from Archer “Shitballs. Are they for real?!”

TLDR: After gallbladder emergency at work, Boss asks wife to finish shift. While at the Er asked her to come in tonight. Recommended a less invasive surgery so she can be back before end of the week. Tomorrow starts our vacation.
