I am a manager at a large company. (I treat my employees like humans.) My group are consultants that work on projects for our clients. One of my employees, Sam, got a job in another department, but worked out a start date a couple months later for reasons that aren't relevant to the story. We told her project leader, we call him POS, when we found out a little over a month ago.
We are now about 4 weeks from when she is supposed to leave and no one has contacted us to backfill her position on the project, so we reach out to the project lead. During the conversation, POS says that the client really wants Sam to stay on the project a month past her current end date. Without talking to Sam, POS went to the VP of her new department asking if Sam can start later.
Not only is the VP 3 layers above her new manager and has no knowledge of Sam and her arrangement, but POS didn't even ask, let alone talk to Sam prior going above her head. And POS didn't talk to me. I was about to give this guy an earful, but bless her heart, Sam did it for me.
She says “Not going to lie, guys, but I am fucking pissed. This is bullshit. You have no right to renegotiate my new employment on my behalf.” All the POS said was “thank you for your feedback”. No apology.
I am also livid on her behalf. I am debating what I should do now. Also of note, my last day at the company is Friday. Any advice?
