Taking responsibility for another worker

I work at a fancy restaurant that was recently mentioned on one of the major late night shows. I’m a dishwasher and the co worker I share duties with is more of a slacker than I could ever hope to be. In the dish pit you have to fast and organized and be able to work as a team to keep things running smoothly for BOH. Since my co worker slacks – meaning he’ll go against the workflow, putting dishracks anywhere, let’s dishracks pile up, ignores bussers, ignores calls to restock plates – I end up taking the lions share of work and then have to micro manage this co worker since his workflow is trash and slows everyone down and generally screws things up.

Another aspect to this is the fact that there is a language barrier happening between BOH leadership and this dishwasher who speaks primarily Portuguese and some Spanish. Leadership speaks English and a little Spanish but not much. I can speak some Spanish and full English and therefore am de facto translator/messenger. If this co worker is slacking on his duties then I hear about it as if I’m his proxy or legal guardian. I’m tired of this bullshit but need the hours and need the work.
