After being laid off from 2 jobs as a student and putting my degree on hold due to poor mental health, I've been struggling a lot with money. Last summer I took a shitty job at a local Dunkin Donuts for $13.25. The hours were shitty, they disrespected my availability and the words “full-time”, and I was overworked. I was nervous about quitting due to having just been out of a job for a while and not seeing better paying positions but I took a chance and started looking and applying intensely for a few weeks. I got a better offer @$16/hr in a dining services position and quit that week with no notice after I got hired.
After 6 months I was once again overworked (working 45-50 hours now) and frustrated with the lack of support from management and I gave my notice a few weeks ago. Today I just got another job offer with $20/hr base pay + tips + some benefits. With this raise I'll be able to live more comfortably so I don't need to work OT and can focus on going back to my degree!
I've only been a lurker for less than a year but all your posts and stories here have been so helpful and inspiring and are honestly the reason I had the courage to walk away from what I thought was the best I could find right now so I wanted to share mine.
