Thanks to r/antiwork I had to courage to tell my old employer to pound sand when I was low-balled for a raise.
So… I put some theory into practice and decided that I'm going to reap the benefits of my own labor instead of padding out some miser's bank account. I'd rather be broke and my own boss, working as much or as little as I want, than be broke and overworked making someone else 5-6x the money I take home.
A lot of people have congratulated me and think I'm doing this as some sort of great adventure because I am “lucky” enough to have the freedom to travel. But the truth is, I was so depressed for the past decade that I just never managed to find the energy to pursue traditional life goals. I don't consider this a privilege. I consider it an accidental silver lining to wasting my 20's working for bullshit money to feed an uncaring beast.
Keep up the fight, y'all. And remember, r/antiwork isn't about hating your boss, it is about hating the fact that you need to have a boss in the first place.
