I have two separate tendon and muscle injuries. I've been working while injured, forcing myself to learn to be ambidextrous to remain productive. I don't typically complain because I'm just afraid to lose my income. Today I call out after over two weeks of working with one and a half arms. I'm just tired. It keeps getting worse.
From a young age, we're punished for calling out of school while sick, but also told to stay home.
As adults, we're often punished or fired for calling out while injured or sick, but our doctors tell us to rest. We get scolded. When we get injured at work, our pay is cut while we're on workman's comp or short-term disability. A lot of us can barely afford our normal salaries and to have them cut at all makes us just starve.
I hate this system.
Being 'weak' makes me so anxious. I'm not going to get written up or interrogated for my body failing with this employer, but I definitely have with my past employers.
