I have a principle that I’ve lived my life by. It is that the people that we need to look after are those that will send us a christmas card when we are old.
No-one else really matters. Nothing else really matters.
If you leave a job, they will forget you. Your managers will barely give you a reference. Your hours of free extra effort mean nothing. Leaving a birthday party to go to a work emergency will not be appreciated for long, if at all.
But your family and friends are what makes life worth living. Spend time watching your kids grow up. Take the time to be a good husband or wife and treat your partner to your time and attention. It will make your life rich beyond money.
