The Double Rejection

I applied for an IT position with the Vail Ski Resort Group in Colorado back in October of 2022. I got a text message from them in Mid December asking if I was still interested in working for Vail, but not in the IT department. They had several listings they need to be filled; Restaurant Crew, Cook, Lift Operator, Non-Certified Ski/Snowboard Instructor, Ticket and Product Sales Agent, or Retail Associate. I also have a background in Ticket Sales so I replied that the Ticket and product Sales Agent position would fit my experience. They said “Great! We can move you forward for that position today if you'd like!” I replied Yes, and they sent me a background check and Electronic Hire documents. I completed the forms and awaited their reply. It was now 13 December 2022. On the 20th of December I still had not heard back form them so…

We can move you forward for that position today if you'd like!”

I replied Yes, and they sent me a background check and Electronic Hire documents. I completed the forms and awaited their reply. It was now 13 December 2022.

On the 20th of December I still had not heard back form them so I sent them an email. There is 5-7 business day response time due to the number of email they receive. Fine.

I got a reply on Dec 29th stating that: “I am showing that you have been placed in DRAFT with your manager, Once she moves you to HIRED, you will receive emails containing all necessary documents left to be filled out.

Now I'm really confused. So I respond to that email asking for some clarification. What does Draft status mean? How long will that take, can you give me the contact information for the manager? ETC…

Nothing.

So I manage to get the managers contact information a few days later on my own, send her an email, and she replies that my application never reached her desk.

Now I'm pissed, but I still need a job, so I explain that there was probably a mix-up because I had originally applied for an IT position. I ask if they still need help and if I can be considered. They say they will give me a call to arrange in interview.

Great. Interview comes around (with a different person) I explain the situation and they state that they don't know what happened either and ask me if I intend to apply for employee housing. I say that I do intend to apply. (Housing is limited and highly sought after, Vail is rally expensive in the winter). I get the housing application yesterday and ask them what date I should put in for my start date. The housing person replies stating that they had my reservation for the 20th of January. I reply that I could arrive on Monday, and filled out the form.

This morning I received an email saying they are unable to move forward with my hiring process. I checked their job-site, and the job was last posted on the 12th of January.

TLDR: Applied for one job, never heard back. Got offered a different job, only to be shafted a month later. BOTH jobs are still posted on their website.
