I work in sales as en engineer. The last two years have been a struggle (literally got asked in a meeting “aside from Covid what are your largest barriers to selling”), but we finally had some good deals coming in.
We closed a large deal. It was a fight. Last minute. Wahoo pay day.
In all large sales orgs you sign a comp plan document that goes over how you get paid. All of them have a windfall clause that gives the company an out to pay you what you actually earn on a deal. You don’t sign that, you get no commission. So you’re stuck.
Today the company pulled the clause. Costing me about 80% of what I should get paid. Informing me through a slack a few days before I’m to get paid.
Even when you find success, companies can find a way to punish you for it. To take and take. To punish you for what they push you for.
