I’ve read so many posts here stating that they have experienced a sudden raise in pay. Their employers told them that they did this great job and this is their reward . Fast forward to 2022, cost of living in any state has gone up . The employees felt that it wasn’t really a raise. It was just to put them at “market price”.
I have gone through the same thing. Only that I was just put at market price . Nothing more . Nothing less . I told my employers that I need a raise. This was on top of the raise I got last year. Of course, I told them that I know it was just to put me at market price . They didn’t expect for me to ask all of a sudden. It took them awhile to give me the raise but it happened .
I realized that if I have not looked at current job offerings, I wouldn’t have realized that I was drinking the “kool-aid” at my job. I realized that if they gave me the legitimate raise that I should’ve gotten last year then I wouldn’t be so tight on finances right now . Come to think of it , for the many months that I was just at “market value”, I lost the money I should’ve gotten with an actual raise . It is really forgone income .
To anyone that reads this, it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been working for someone . It doesn’t matter if you like your boss . At the end of the day, you have to constantly look if there are better opportunities for you . You are your only advocate at work . Your boss would rather pocket that extra pay that you would’ve gotten .
OH AND TO ADD . INFLATION IS 7.5% FOR THE PAST 12 MONTHS. IF YOUR “RAISE” IS NOT EVEN THAT MUCH THEN I AM SORRY TO TELL YOU THAT YOU WERE NOT EVEN SET UP TO BE COMPARABLE TO MARKET PRICE .
