This is a vent/rant as I don't know how else to get rid of this anger at my employer.
Small company, less than 10 people. I joined them part way through a holiday year. Came the end of the holiday year and was told I had 1 day left to take. I checked and found only 22 days taken (inc.bank holidays).
Based on .gov calculations I should have a total of 26 to take as I was not employed while the bank holidays took place to absorb my annual entitlement.
I raised this as a legality, none specific to my entitlement and over the course of 2 weeks I went from being seen as “blue collar work your ass off through lunch breaks and staying late” to “problem lazy worker who is trying to scam time off” even though my working hard habits never changed.
I had to fight them to understand basic fuckin maths as they had automatically deducted the standard amount of bank holidays days away from me and my colleague. So 26-8 = 18. I sent my workings out to the boss and he didn't even send them on to his accounts team. I subsequently had several nasty conversations where by they attacked my work ethic and tried to bully me on the position.
I care about the companies I work for, I take pride in bleeding the company colours because I enjoy succeeding as a small team. But this keeps coming back and taking up rent in my thoughts. My entitlement aside they were operating illegally.
I want to move on but I'm still pissed off.
TL:DR – Boss can't count holiday days and was bullied/ostracized for raising it as an issue.
