The only authority figures at my work are the Doctor and the Office Manager but they are SISTERS…

I work at a private dermatology practice that the doctor I work for built and opened with her husband (who is an oral surgeon and works on the other side of the building). The only authority figure at the practice is the office manager who happens to be the dermatologist’s sister… The dermatologist is an absolute lose cannon- She yells at us medical assistants in front of patients, she is the biggest control freak I think I have ever met, she’s degrading, and her mood swings give all of us whip lash. I have never worked at a place with more micro-managing than at this clinic, and the micro-management is the worst part of all. On the other hand, I have worked at this clinic longer than anyone else, I am the lead MA, and I am making more money than I have at any previous job. I also love…

The dermatologist is an absolute lose cannon- She yells at us medical assistants in front of patients, she is the biggest control freak I think I have ever met, she’s degrading, and her mood swings give all of us whip lash. I have never worked at a place with more micro-managing than at this clinic, and the micro-management is the worst part of all.

On the other hand, I have worked at this clinic longer than anyone else, I am the lead MA, and I am making more money than I have at any previous job. I also love dermatology.

I feel like if the manager wasn’t her sister (& didn’t tell her sister anything we say to her) it would be easier to express complaints about the job/work environment and seek solutions. I’ve been considering voicing these concerns to my manager, but I fear that nothing will happen other than the doctor hearing everything I say and having it out for me for a few months. I really wish they would hire another manager or an HR person (because we currently don’t have HR) that was NOT related to the doctor(s)..

Any advice or anyone who wants to share something similar they’ve experienced would make me feel a lot better. Tyia.
