My current job counts as part of the service industry, and it started out with lots of problems but it was really fun because of the people I worked with. Everyone who was originally hired with me is trying to leave, we have all be secretly (or openly) applying to new jobs but its hard to do interviews with an erratic schedule.
We are supposed to sell products but we are always out of ingredients or whole products for weeks at a time. The menus are made by corporate and we can’t modify them to remove the items we don’t/will never have, and it’s embarrassing to have to constantly have to tell people that they can’t order things.
There were multiple sexual harassment issues that weren’t properly documented and nothing was done about it and the communication from upper management is nonexistent.
None of the full time employees are being scheduled enough to afford rent, me included and we know if we mention that we are looking for jobs then we will be scheduled for less. Within the next four months the turnover rate is going to be nearly 100%.
“Just get a new job” over the past three months i have applied to 70 jobs, i passed up several because they lied on the job listening suddenly being commission only, only part time or whole scams. Forty never got back to me, or did months later.
I can’t talk about the situation with my boss or go into specifics because this is a one of a kind situation but its an absolute train wreck. I have my schedule for the next month basically and i’ll only make enough to pay rent. On top of being scheduled half of what i should be i keep being told to not come in to work or getting sent home early to save on hours.
It got to a point where someone was applying for jobs from a work computer in front of customers. The annoying part is a lot of the problems have simple solutions, a lot could be fixed with communication but my boss doesn’t care or does the opposite of the helpful thing.
