I have been through a few jobs in my time. At one point I was even juggling 5 different shitty casual jobs. But this one takes the cake.
It was in insurance sales. I read the add, I was desperate and centrelink was making me record at least 20 job applications each week. I did the interview. They explained the job was commission only, but there was a retainer for the first 6 months to get you started. There was a week and a half mandatory training and I would be given accommodation and a food budget.
Again, I really needed a job.
Less than a week before the training they rang and asked if I could find my own accommodation. I said no. Suddenly they found something for me.
I started work. Suddenly “too many people had been taking advantage of the retainer and quitting as soon as the 6 months was up” so now it is commission only from the get go. The managers are telling me to use sales tactics we were explicitly told are illegal during the training only 1 week before. I was sent to another town where I had to pay for accommodation to try sell some policies there. I spent more money than I earned.
I sold maybe 3 policies in about 3 months. I spent hours and hours cold calling and getting yelled at and hating everything.
When I quite I was told I was a disappointment and a waste of money. I told them they were too.
