There is no labour shortage, just an ethical employer shortage

I currently work part time and was looking to grab an extra job to pick up the remaining hours. I applied for a minimum wage job advertising 16/hr a week. After my first interview I had to schedule a second one with a regional manager and they continually tried to reschedule with me as well as calling me at the end of the day while I was working so I was unable to reach them afterwards. Finally after another interview, I was asked to schedule a “trial shift” to “get to know the team” and “see if I'm a good fit” (you couldn't figure that out during the THREE interview process?), and it is UNPAID. Unpaid trial shifts are illegal where I live, and for a company that operates across the country you would think they'd be aware of that. Guess not.
