There isn’t a workers shortage as much as there is an wages/hours shortage

In my city, I kept hearing about “workers shortages” in retail like grocery stores. These front line positions that seemingly couldn't find or keep employees. These weren't mom and pop shops – these were grocery stores and pharmacies owned by arguably the largest corp in the country. I can only imagine they don't want to hire full time employees so they don't have to pay benefits. I have no doubt I would have stayed if I had even 20 hours a week, part time. The job itself was actually enjoyable and my colleagues were great. But a piddly 8 hours a week is ridiculous and no wonder they have a worker shortage. Who the heck can live off of that?
