They really feel that once we sign a contract that they own us.

I am so fucking fed up of corporations. My partners work has scheduled a meeting to discuss her sickness and has booked it with 4 days notice for a day that she is not available. When she has told them that it's too short notice and needs to reschedule, rather than just do so like a reasonable person her manger has instead said she is contracted to work those hours and therefore he feels it's reasonable and won't be moving it. She has been signed off sick by her doctor for over 3 years. She doesn't get paid sick leave. And yet the company expects her to keep the 16 hours a week she used to work free for them, every week, with no financial compensation just in case they randomly want to discuss her mental health. My partners work has scheduled a meeting to discuss her sickness and has booked it with 4 days notice for a day that she is not available.

When she has told them that it's too short notice and needs to reschedule, rather than just do so like a reasonable person her manger has instead said she is contracted to work those hours and therefore he feels it's reasonable and won't be moving it.

This is all made worse by the fact that the reason she can't attend the meeting is because she is unable to speak on the phone unaided, and her support (me) is working. She has offered to reschedule and been shut down. She has explained that her mental health is the reason for her absence, and short notice meetings to discuss it make things worse, and yet they double down and insist on doing the same thing over and over again.

She wants to work. She wants to get better and is doing her best. And that doesn't matter to them. Showing some human decency is too much to ask.

There's not even a logical business explanation as twice before they have done this, and gone ahead with the meetng without her. They waste other employees time and the company's money to hold a meeting without the person they need to talk to. And then waste time arguing about moving the meetings to a time she could attend.

How do we have a fucking hope in the world when people can spout something like and not see that it's fucking insane and an indefensible position?
