Thinking of quitting after a year…but that will only reinforce my boss’s incorrect assumptions about young people.

I’ve worked at this small company for about a year. From the get go, my boss let it be known her incorrect assumptions about young people. Mostly how they don’t want to work and how they “job hop” very often (she has remained in this company for 12 years, so she is very out of touch with how everything is nowadays). A lot of things are changing in my life and I realized too late that I had made a mistake in choosing this job. I have a lot on my plate and I’m unhappy. I would like to return to one of my old jobs because I really enjoyed it. The only thing is my boss will revel in the joy of her negative opinions being reinforced by my quitting. And I don’t like confrontation either. She’s always declaring how she made a good choice with hiring me and how she wants me to stay on until I graduate college (3.5 years!!!). I have a feeling she will prod if I tell her I’m resigning and am general about my plans for future work. I want to take the easy way out and not say anything but I wanna be happy at the same time. It’s just difficult. I have some time to figure out what I wanna do, but I’m feeling conflicted at the moment.
