I really wish this sub existed when I was going through my darkest times at work. I think I'd have responded/behaved/stood up for myself so much better if I knew that others were fighting against bad employment and that I was right in how I was feeling. I was always taught that having any job was better than no job, no matter the consequences on your physical and mental health which means I've put up with and stayed in a lot of jobs where I should have walked much sooner. Jobs that have given me depression and anxiety, had a toll on my body and made me feel so small and insignificant.
I applaud this sub for empowering people to stand up for themselves against being exploited and manipulated. We do not live to work, and any job that impacts your health in any way is not worth your life. There have been multiple occasions, that I still think back on, here I could have easily gone so far as taking legal action against an employer. But because of the lack of education on how I should be treated as an employee, I never got closure and they got away with it.
It's not only that this sub exists, but you are helping young people to be taught that you don't have to stay in bad jobs because that's what society tells you to expect from your job. . 'Oh you work a shitty waitress job to pay for college? So have we all, why should you have it any better'.
'You should be grateful you even have a job at all, so many people would kill for your position, stop complaining'
Nobody deserves that attitude, and the more people take control and stand up for themselves and each other, the better this world will be.
Thank you for this sub. I genuinely think you will be changing a lot of lives for the better.
