I love this sub for its solidarity and I 100% agree with most of the ideas this sub stands for.
However… we've really got to stop promoting bad life choices.
Leaving your place of work by flipping off your boss and shitting on the floor because he/she didn't speak to you nicely without having another job lined up and simultaneously complaining about not being able to afford to live is just not a wise decision.
Absolutely, fuck your boss. Yes, this economy is terrible and the game is rigged; even so, burning everything down around you will only make you the most ignored martyr in history. Your boss will eventually get over you leaving and will most likely simply continue to live their lives while you're facing homelessness and financial ruin.
Furthermore, this sub constantly berates anyone trying to get ahead by simply making smart investment decisions.
We don't want this economy, but we live in it. In order to get ahead and climb out of the hole many of us are in you simply have to play by it's rules or resign yourself to a life of crippling poverty until you die.
People who have the means to do so (even a little) should invest their money. We need to stop berating and shaming people who are just trying to do the smart thing with their money. Yes, all profits come from somewhere and ultimately profits mean you're taking someone else's money; nevertheless this is the economy we live in.
If you're selling your house, sell it for what the market is valuing it at. Do not sell it for drastically lower than the market valuation to try and battle capitalism and/or to be a good person. You will only serve to keep yourself financially dependent making decisions like this and will never climb out of the hole.
If you have a home and moved, rent your home. You heard me, landlord.
It is the smartest financial decision (when careful) you can make with your property and is one of the best ways to build a nest egg that can grow into something more later. Does it suck? YES. Is it scummy? Absolutely. There is a middle ground where you can get a tiny bit of dirt under your nails but not be a complete degenerate.
If you're going this route, don't gauge people. Don't arbitrarily hike up rent. Don't start buying properties with the sole intention of renting them to communities that cannot afford it.
In the end you have two options:
-
2.
In conclusion you have one life to live and being cheered by people online while sleeping in a trashcan in real life is not a life at all. With the destruction of the middle class and most jobs simply paying far too little to build any kind of life you either have to be smart (aka, scummy) with your money or you simply die in a hole somewhere for your beliefs; which, while admirable, will literally not effect the trajectory of things at all and every poor person will still be poor despite you essentially sacrificing your life to avoid being an oppressor.
You have to make some concessions to the bullshit economy we live in to survive. You do not have to become Kevin O'Leary, but skipping your morning starbucks will not save you from the middle-class squeeze.
