After months of searching for a new job to no avail, working in a current hostile environment where the manager has favorites, having certain truths like the LOCATION of the job being omitted until I was about to sign a new contract (which I signed anyway- I just asked for more time so I can get my things in order, highest pay per hour I was able to find + a small sign on bonus that was the best I’d be able to get. I’ve decided I’m going to quit probably in less than a year anyway.) I had another hiring manager reach out and said they wanted to extend an offer for $32,000. The position was originally set at $35,000-55,000. They couldn’t find anyone and thought I’d be the best candidate and tweaked it to $32,000 to “train” me to get to the qualifications they wanted. This was an assistant and translator job by the way. It was really three jobs in one. You’d work under the company as the office assistant, work as a personal assistant as well to the boss whenever he comes to town and be his translator. My language command is good enough although it’s not at the native level so that was a flaw to them, but they couldn’t get anyone else so they offered me $32,000? For a posting that had $35,000 minimum? What is this? For the area I live in that is not a livable wage and it’s definitely not what is worth giving to someone with a master’s degree and work experience. Old me would’ve been grateful, new me is appalled this was even offered. Do they have no shame giving such crappy offers that are jokes? At least give something else to not make it laughable. Keep fighting the good fight y’all. The job market and the people in power suck. We deserve better. Find your worth and acknowledge it during the phone calls and interviews. It gets easier when you go through 50-100 of them in the timespan of 4 months lol.
