Hello – I joined this sub to get a better idea of how some of my employees may think and what could be done on my end to continually improve morale and continue to retain my employees long term as this is vital to any businesses success.
I’m a business owner (early 30s) and 80% of my employees have been with me for over 10 years. Currently employee >30 people.
I pay all of my employees a livable wage >$1,000/week after taxes with optional overtime on Saturday (some times it’s mandatory because we’re a construction company and shit happens, but we never work Sunday – I believe this to be a uninterrupted family/personal day).
Holiday pay for all major holidays and vacation pay that starts off at 2 weeks per year (after 6 months of employment) and currently maxes out at +/-32 days which is based on how long they have been with the company. All employees receive a Christmas bonus that is > 2 weeks worth of wages.
Managers get a monthly bonus based on performance which could be $200 or $2,000+ and they also get a year end bonus based on goals they’ve set and what I think they can do (typical year end bonus is >$25k).
What are your thoughts on performance based pay if you’re already making a livable wage working <40 hours per week? Are you still going to do the bare minimum? Hourly wage, time off and flexibility seems to be the biggest complaints I’ve seen in this sub. If all of these needs are being met, what else would motivate you?
