Three strikes and I haven’t even started the job

Background: I decided to move away from direct social services (low salary) and towards administration/policy (high salary). However, I like doing direct care work and want a strong application for the grad program I'm interested in. I found a part time job (48 hrs a MONTH) at a local women's shelter, one that I knew from a previous job and had many positive interactions with. I found a part time job (48 hrs a MONTH) at a local women's shelter, one that I knew from a previous job and had many positive interactions with. The pay is low compared to my cost of living ($19/hr) but it is not my main income, so I'm fine with it.

: As part of my hiring documents, I had to get a document notarized and obtain a 3yr motor vehicle report. Both of which were about $6 each and I was expected to cover the costs myself.

: The training schedule is all on Zoom (yay!) but there's about 3 hrs worth of mandatory, “on your own” training. Aka, not being paid for.

: My new supervisor just called me and said that they missed the hiring deadline for me to join the training this week so they needed to do a work-around. I was told that I would technically be considered a volunteer as far as HR was concerned and that the first 20 hours of my training would be paid in April. I asked her if she could send this in an email and she said that because it is under the table, they don't want to do that.

WHAT. THE. HELL
