I have been working for an older company which specialize in marine equipment. We are over a century old and are comprised of very little people. About 90% of the company is near retirement age. I am the youngest employee with one other my age the rest are maybe a few years out from leaving.
The problem starts with the fact we are converting from a pen and paper system to ERP system that maybe three people know how to run with me being included, The president, and one Sales member.
I have gone from being a part picker to being the system admin for the entire workshop floor controlling the flow of data inputted by geriatric's who have a very loose understanding of technology.
Now the problem comes from the fact I have not been compensated for my Job.
I started at 20 an hour and now I am at 21.50 an hour. Being near a city where minimum wage is 15 an hour and with the current work shortage most local fast food stores are hiring for 20-21 an hour.
We were promised bonuses by the President before Christmas but it has been 3 months and our President who is responsible for signing those off, has gone on vacation to Vegas. This came before we got a post on the door that we had lost as a company the “Family Feel” and that we should never expect bonuses. Again we were promised by the President during our company meeting.
They also sold my Vacation time in August without telling me they changed the vacation system but I never received the payment of the time sold of 17.5 hours VAC
So this morning I handed in my two week notice to my Shop Foremen and he is currently faxing it to my President who is on vacation. This is during our busiest season where we have multiple contracts failing to meet deadlines for fishing season all due by the end of the month and April because Sales and our president have been making promises we cannot meet with the workforce available.
Good luck with that 55-75% failure rate for ERP conversion.
