Today I woke up happy.
I've been employed since I was 13 (48m). Spent 4 years in the Army after high school and then went back to school and worked for a mortgage finance company for 21 years. The company was sold and I was hired by the new owners… for two months. That was November 2019. Guess what was right around the corner?! Lockdowns!!!
I got lucky and found a position in IT with a higher salary but it was a bad job from the start. Combine a new job in a different industry (finance IT to medical IT), pandemic, medical issues both physical and mental, one kid finishing up high school and finding that Covid screwed over their dreams (no NYU) and another starting middle school. Many, MANY more things happened which made me stay longer then I ever expected in a position that I couldn't stand and really wasn't needed.
I finally had enough with working an unnecessary job for a poorly managed company and submitted my 2 week notice the day I was handed a poor annual review for work that was not my responsibility or a goal. My last day of employment was yesterday.
Today I woke up happy.
