So I work at a grocery store and I’ve always bent over backwards doing more than I’m assigned. How it works for the average employee is you start off pushing carts and then move up to cashier or another department. So I’ve been here two years and I got to the cashier position.
Last year however they moved me stores and basically got demoted to pushing carts again. The director tells me “don’t worry, you’ll be a cashier again, just gotta find people” every time he finds someone he moves them so I’m still stuck doing the carts, sweep, go backs and all that. Anyway, there are days where I’ll do double duty and be a cashier and do the carts. However if I’m doing the cashiering, they don’t let me know about the carts until there are none left, which is double the work since I do it by myself. That’s the main thing, I get no help from anyone else, the other cashiers are just cashiers, it’s not a team effort.
So today a cashier called off and a manager asked me if I cups help on the register and I said no, I’d rather do the job I’m assigned. I’m one of the fastest cashiers and customers have told me that, that I finish lines fast but this store doesn’t really see me as a cashier so I’ll do the carts but that’s all I’ll do. Then he got tough with me and said he doesn’t wanna see me talking to the other employees and all that. Felt kinda good to put my foot down, all these false promises of giving me my old position back but whatever haha
