Tone Deaf Pep Talk

Context to this story is that everyone at my work place has recently had 8 hours a paycheck cut because corporate has tightened the budget. Gas is high as fuck, groceries are expensive, and it's summer in the south so most people's electric bills have gone up. But sure cut our hours. On top of that, members in another department are getting twice as much work piled on them because they don't have it in the budget to hire more people, even though business is totally booming and we have so many people coming through. On top of that, members in another department are getting twice as much work piled on them because they don't have it in the budget to hire more people, even though business is totally booming and we have so many people coming through.

So we had a work party yesterday where our GM decided to make a speech. He told us all about how well we did in the first half of the year. He explained his budget to us, and let us know how well we've all worked to help keep him on that budget. He then said that we made a million more than we made last year. He then added, with that being said, things are going to slow down and cuts are going to be made. He said that we've probably already noticed this. And he expected us to understand why our hours were being cut. He said we made our business a MILLION more dollars than we made last year, and expected us to understand why our hours are being cut.

Just feeling a little frustrated over here because I definitely do not understand how anyone's hours can be cut when we've just made a company that much money. To put it in perspective, it would cost the company nine thousand dollars to keep everyone on for their extra 8 hours a pay period, bringing everyone up to 40 hours a week. When we made them, one million dollars.
