I (28) feel like I need to wear a go-pro or something. My supervisor is used to 15 year old delinquents or 17 year old college students. I'm nearly 30, but qualified for the student summer program because I'm attending college finally to improve my career pool.
There is no trust at all. They constantly accuse me of being on my phone when I'm actually doing my assigned work just out of their range of view. Lord help me if I take a bathroom break or need a glass of water because it's over 30c outside, and in that moment my supervisor needs me.
Just today, I was waiting for some paint to dry, and decided to take my 15 minute break during that time because I needed to put a second coat on. My supervisor was constantly telling me I was entitled to my breaks (I'd skip them because I'd get too focused on my tasks), so I sit down in the break room to write down my finances for the coming month, because I'm moving to a new apartment. Then they pop into the break room and before they started asking (because I knew that look why the fuck are you sitting down on company time?) I stated I'm waiting for the paint to dry, was taking my 15 minute break, and just sat down 3 minutes ago.
After that I complete the rest of the painting I was told to do and go clean my work area/equipment, before putting everything into the shed. I still had an hour left on the shift, so I go inside to wash the paint off myself and pee. Which took less than 5 minutes. I go back outside to find my supervisor painting over the still drying primer and ask them what they are doing. The bark at me that they looked everywhere for me including the bathroom (no they didn't because I was in the bathroom washing at the sink), and couldn't find me, and they wanted the doors (what I was waiting to dry) to be finished so they could hang them up tomorrow.
I was confused because we had a discussion that according to the painting instructions, we had to let the primer dry completely for four hours minimum so the paint sealed the wood properly. We already made a plan for me to complete the painting job the next day, because of the instructions.
They then angrily told me to go water the flowerbeds (that I watered the other day and talked about not wanting to water too much in August because the roots will get lazy). This supervisor also didn't know 1145 – 1215 was a half-hour and tried to convince me it was an hour, even though the computer said it was only 30mins. Yesterday they thought I should of still be on lunch when I just came back from lunch 20mins ago.
I mean I'm only there until August 31st, and already explained to the program curator that I believed a mixture of my unmedicated ADHD, training in (current) management, and a generational difference was the main source of or issues. But, I felt disrespected by my supervisor as they weren't ever trusting of me because they tried to lump me in with teenagers that don't need to work to survive.
Like unless they have a budget to strap a go-pro to their summer student workers, why would keeping a constant eye on me matter if everything is being completed in a timely manner? Also if I was gone for hours, unless I shift to an alternative plane of existence or was abducted by aliens that can bend space-time to make it seem I'm both gone for hours within a couple of minutes, I don't see any logical reason for them to come to the conclusion I'm MIA.
This supervisor is also near retirement age, so I'm going to blame it on their mind starting to slip. But, they are not the only people to manage me that had absolutely no respect or trust in me. However this is a contract job, so I'm just trying to get through these last few days without getting into a pointless fight.
