Turned down a job offer because of the salary and they called me back baffled

I’ve been interviewing with a few tech companies, and got to the final stage at a couple of them. Last week HR calls me from one company and tells me about their amazing (not really) offer. I told them my thoughts, but they didn’t budge on the compensation. I was very hesitant but thought maybe no one else will reach back to me, so I told them to go ahead and send me a contract. 2 days later, another company gets back to me with 45% more salary, a sign on bonus, and an extra week of vacation. This is a no brainer for me, as soon as the higher paying company sends me their contract, I send an email to the first one saying sorry but I won’t accept it due to the salary. A day goes by, and their HR leave me a voice mail baffled asking me…
