Two Jobs One Person

I work for a Midwestern gas station chain that prides itself on the phrase “Food is our future” In my locations kitchen I work as the RTE side along with a raw product/ fry cook person. (We serve hand-breaded fried chicken with other fried foods) and on our shift there is only the two of us. I work for a Midwestern gas station chain that prides itself on the phrase “Food is our future”

In my locations kitchen I work as the RTE side along with a raw product/ fry cook person. (We serve hand-breaded fried chicken with other fried foods) and on our shift there is only the two of us.

My counterpart was unavailable for their shift, so my location's managers tried instructing me on behalf of their management that it is unacceptable to have product unavailable therefore I would have to basically juggle both jobs.

I blatantly said “I can fucking walk out right now” as well as “you're getting one or the other and I'm not negotiating that.”

It was a stressful situation, but I assumed my normal duties as per our 'budgeted payroll' and haven't yet received any blowback.

I wanted to share my story because I want to individuals to know that the business will put itself first and we as individuals retain our right to put ourselves first.
