I applied for a ETL developer position on LinkedIn. I am an immigrant in US and this description never said candidates on visa aren't eligible. I got a call in 30 mins from a recruiter for this company. First thing she asked is what is my immigration status. I told her I'm on a work visa and will need a transfer if this process works out. She seemed confused and kept asking if it means they need to work with my current employer. I said no, transfer is an independent process. She then said :”We don't accept candidates who need visa sponsorship, we're a big company, we're a huge company, we're a billion dollar company so we cannot accept people with a visa”. I thought the way she put it was strange, but this happens. She then asked me if I knew someone who could fit this position. Umm so you can't accept my application because of my visa, but you want ME to recommend you someone who doesn't need sponsorship and meets the job requirements?? I said no I don't know anyone else, I only knew one candidate – me. She paused and said ok, will you let me know if you come across someone who will be a good fit and submit their profile? I was stunned and just cut the call. Is this normal in IT recruitment in US??
