I am 11 months into my first professional job as a 3D designer for a high end luxury furniture company. It’s a job that currently pays two salesmen, myself (3D Designer), and my manager to make a sales quota. I took this position because I love interior design and drafting home layouts but since our crew is intimately small I do a lot of client leg work aka email communications figuring out fabric swatches, textures, all while building out their home spaces and concluding what they can furnish with said space. All the while my colleague salesmen reap the benefits through reputation with my manager but I make a majority of design decisions for these clients. To be frank, I will get a set of floor plans with no materials for the home and a sticky note from the salesmen with ‘sectional (a) with cocktail table (b) with no finishes specified in the configuration and make picturesque renditions. So I make a design choice, the sale is made, and my coworkers get the kudos, the recognition, and the commission. We are currently under scrutiny because we have a new regional boss that is copied on all of our emails and my manager gave public kudos to the salesman when she knew I did 15 renditions of this person’s home, directly while this salesman tended to walk-in customers.
