Unicorn Jobs Shouldn’t Be So Damn Rare in the First Place

So, like many of us, I'm keeping my eye out for greener pastures. My current job is decent, but the pay makes it tough to get ahead. Benefits are better than most, but nothing super great. Anyways, I saw a job posting for a fully remote position doing basically what I already do (and honestly, maybe even less), with a salary that's $33,000 above what I'm currently making. But what really made this job sparkly (aside from the fact they're actually doing some good in the world) is that you get a 4 day work week, unlimited PTO, 10 paid holidays, plus office is closed the last 2 weeks of the year for the holidays. Of course I applied, but I'm sure it's a long shot to get it because I'm guessing a ton of folks also are applying , which they absolutely should.

Me being excited about this company quickly turned into this thought – these high-paying jobs with 4-day work weeks and generous time off shouldn't be the exception, it should be the norm. We should be pissed that a non-profit can offer these great things to their employees, but Fortune 500 companies won't. That's the real bullshit.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that this company was founded and run by millennials. Maybe we all should put our heads together and start some new businesses and steal away the Boomers supply of wage slaves.

Rant over.
