Unpaid lunch breaks are archaic

In my country, each shift length has a law regulated set of breaks, including unpaid lunch breaks. These make no sense anymore. No person can seriously tell me that 30 minutes is long enough of a break from a work shift to justify not being paid while being at work. If I was to leave work in these 30 minutes, I would take 10 minutes getting to my car and a other 10 walking back, meaning only 10 real minutes away from work. So I think it's reasonable to say that I am stuck at work for my 30 minute lunch break and therefore should be paid for my time. My managers team my shift time to be 8.5 hours long, therefore it should be paid at 8.5 hours, not 8.
