My work has recently hired too many people due to an anticipated increase in sales this year. As a result, regular full-time employees are being forced to MTO (mandatory time off). The supervisors will message us in the middle of a call and say we must “immediately clock-out” because they’re initiating MTO. We may be working with someone in an actual emergency, so clocking out immediately is not ideal. Also, I had a situation recently where my MTO was 9 minutes. This resulted in my losing my first 4 hour worked 15-minute break, not by choice. They just automatically took it off my schedule. This whole MTO thing feels sketchy, but I don’t think it’s illegal.
I think the whole point of MTO is so they're not losing money from us sitting around doing nothing, but sometimes they will initiate MTO when it is busy which also doesn't make sense. And the amount of money they're saving from MTOing us for 10 minutes is miniscule compared to the amount they make…
edit: this company's revenue is over a billion dollars, why are they trying to save like 3 dollars from MTO-ing me for 10 minutes??
