I work in a factory setting. Never had any kind of sick days or things like that, just vacation. In 2021 they came up with these “Medical Days” where you got 2 a year. And you could go to the doctor as long as it was approved 24 hrs in advance and you had to bring back a doctor's note.
Now, the managers always told everyone those medical days acted like vacation in regard to hours. So if you use a med day and then work 8 hours OT that Saturday, you still get paid for the extra hours you worked. Versus calling off sick – that Saturday would just take your hours up to 40.
So I did this – went to the doctor on Monday, pre-approved, then worked that Saturday. Well it didn't show up on my check. And now I'm being told by HR that the policy in fact DOES NOT support med days counting toward your hours and that I essentially worked a Saturday for free.
Apparently aalll of the managers in the building misunderstood the policy. What are my options here? How can they just tell all of us one thing and then turn around and change their minds? “Oh, my bad, I was mistaken so you're not getting a penny.” This is so fucked up. I know for a fact that if our customer service department quotes the wrong price to a customer, the company honors that price. Period. So why the hell are they treating an employee like this when I've worked here for over 6 years? Any advice would help as I'm seeing red and the only thing I can think to do is yell.
